EXPECTATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In choosing to live at Archways Sober Living (ASL) you are agreeing to abide by the following rules, expectations, and responsibilities.
There are a number of rules at ASL. These are the three most important: No use of mood altering drugs, including alcohol, No exclusive relationships with any guest of ASL (male or female) No violence or threats of violence
1. If you use a mood altering drug, inclusive of alcohol, you will be asked to leave ASL immediately. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule. Your shared living expense (SLE) paid for the current month will not be refunded. SLE paid for any additional months will be returned to the original form of payment within 10 business days.
2. Your monthly SLE must be paid in a timely manner to the ASL manager or a $25.00 fee will be charged for late payments. Late payments are defined as any payments received after the 5th day of the month. There will also be a $25.00 for NSF or returned checks. Failure to pay SLE on time may result in dismissal from ASL.
3. As we are a group we are dedicated to practicing the principles of recovery. You are expected to participate weekly in the following: Four (4) outside AA/NA meetings Perform at least one 1 AA/NA related service commitment Find, meet, and work with an AA/NA sponsor It is essential that each member commit to practicing their own daily spiritual disciplines, positively contribute to the recovery environment at ASL, and be willing to take direction and guidance from others.
4. We commit, while residing at ASL, to refrain from all romantic, exclusive or sexual relationships. Our focus during this short window of time in our lives is on our recovery and on developing relationships with our God, our Sponsor, AA/NA, service in AA/NA and creating lasting, healthy relationships. We are committed during this time at ASL to living out our spiritual and physical recovery disciplines. We are also committed to developing a strong work ethic and to practice these principles in all of our affairs.
5. We are expected to attend all weekly community meetings, Big Book Studies, and special house meetings. Unexcused absences may result in dismissal from ASL.
6. We are expected to respond to each other’s right to anonymity. Who you see here, what you hear here, let it stay here.
7. No overnight passes will be issued within the first thirty (30) days of residence at ASL.
8. After the first thirty (30) days of residence, you may obtain an overnight pass. The ASL manager, as well as all housemates, must be notified if you obtain an overnight pass. You will need to provide a number where you can be reached. This number should not be your own cell phone. Only occasional passes will be permitted.
9. The expectation is that you will have a full-time job within two (2) weeks of entering ASL and maintain a full-time job throughout your stay.
10. All prescription and over-the-counter medication must be kept with your own personal belongings. You are expected to follow all doctors orders for self care as well as following the proper dosages listed on your medications. All medications must have a label from the pharmacy where they were obtained. Use of unauthorized prescription (example, taking other people’s medications) will result in a dismissal from ASL.
11. Do not use someone else’s possessions without permission. Mark all of your personal belongings with your initials. Taking someone’s property without permission constitutes theft and will constitute immediate dismissal from ASL. This includes food that is stored in the refrigerator and/or the cupboards.
12. You may store valuables including cash, jewelry, etc., with the ASL house manager. If you choose not to do so you will be responsible for your own property and any loss that may occur.
13. Gambling, (including, but not limited to, Gambling apps on your phone, scratch off tickets, lotto tickets, betting on sporting events, etc.) is prohibited.
14. Loaning of money to others is prohibited. If there is a housemate that is in need of help have them speak to the ASL house manager.
15. Loaning your car to another resident is prohibited.
16. If you notice something in disrepair at the house please notify the ASL house manager. If it’s a simple fix that you are capable of, feel free to fix it. Your help won’t go unnoticed.
17. All food and beverages are restricted to the kitchen and the dining area. No food or beverages are allowed in any other area of the house.
18. Bedrooms are expected to be kept clean and neat at all times. Beds are to be made by 10:00 am daily. It is each resident’s responsibility to keep the ASL home you are living in neat and in order. Failure to do your assigned chore may result in dismissal from ASL.
19. Residents are encouraged to prepare and eat meals together as much as possible and help with cleanup for all meals. Dishes must be cleaned and put away after each use.
20. Turn off lights, TV, radios, and other electric appliances when not in use. Please be considerate of your housemates and keep volumes low.
21. You are expected to give a minimum of thirty (30) days notice when moving out of ASL.
22. Please keep your feet off the furniture. No sleeping in community areas.
23. Remove shoes when entering the home. There will be a rack to store your shoes as well as a place for a pair of “indoor” slippers/slides/etc.
24. There is no smoking or vaping inside of any ASL home. There is a building outdoors where smoking is permitted.
25. All food in the refrigerator must be labeled with name and date. Do not eat other people’s food. This is theft. See rule 11.
26. Pornography is not allowed at all in any ASL home. This includes cell phones, magazines.
27. If you make a mess clean it up immediately.
28. Chores must be completed by their assigned time.
29. Curfew is as follows: Sunday through Thursday - 11:00 pm. Friday & Saturday - Midnight.
30. If there is a phone call you must take a written message. If you listen to the voicemails take written messages before deleting any messages. At no time will you inform a person calling if the person they are calling for is a resident of ASL. (Example: “I’m new and not sure if that person lives here.”)
31. Please be respectful of the other people in the house when it comes to showers. Hygiene is extremely important in a sober living home, but there is also only so much hot water in a given period.
32. It is the responsibility of the residents of the ASL homes to maintain the yard and sidewalks. This is inclusive of shoveling snow in the winter.
***Failure to adhere to the expectations and responsibilities of ASL may constitute immediate dismissal from the ASL home. If there is a violation, or multiple concurrent violations and you are dismissed from the ASL home your SLE will NOT be refunded for the current month. SLE paid for any additional months will be refunded to the original form of payment.
